Meet John Durishan
Attorney John Durishan is an associate lawyer with the law firm of Melville Johnson PC. He represents government and private sector employees in all areas of employment law, including discrimination claims relating to age, race, gender and sexual harassment. He has experience representing clients before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), in front of the Office of Federal Operations (OFO), the Merit System Protection Board (MSPB), and the Office of Personnel Management (OPM). In addition, Mr. Durishan has represented federal employees under the Whistleblower Protection Act, Termination, and Adverse Action Appeals before the MSPB.
His experienced includes drafting disability retirement applications, reasonable accommodation requests, and job grade appeals. In addition, John has drafted discovery requests, EEO formal complaints, and discovery responses. He has created pre-hearing submissions, motions to compel, motions for sanctions, Office of Field Operations appeals, and appeals to the Merit Systems Protection Board.
Prior to joining Melville Johnson, P.C., Mr. Durishan worked for the New York State Office of the State Comptroller. While there, he helped create internal policies and procedures for equal employment, managed internal discrimination and harassment complaints, trained staff on how to handle discrimination complaints, and redesigned their internal administrative processes.
Mr. Durishan received his Juris Doctorate degree from Albany Law School of Union University, where he worked at Albany Law School’s award winning clinic representing lower income clients in unemployment hearings. Mr. Durishan interned for the Third Judicial District Town.
